Armor of God

Good day everyone, let’s hop right in!

When reading Ephesians 6:10-18, we learn about the full armor of God, and what it can prepare us for!

Ephesians 6:14-17 names the pieces that make up the armor:

Ephesians 6:14-17 NLT

14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

For our armor, we see that we have the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Gospel of Peace, the Shield of Faith, the Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit.

In Ephesians 6:14, the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness are mentioned. The belt is a tool that holds everything we wear together. With this, we should remember to seek the truth within the Word, the living truth, so that we can always be equipped with truth and have this anchor for our spiritual armor! The breastplate of righteousness covers our chest, which is where our heart resides! In Proverbs 4:23 NLT, we are even told to guard our hearts, and what a better way to guard our heart than our righteousness!!

It is in our right-standing with God, which we achieve from salvation, that we become righteous, and it is because we believe that we desire to know God more for ourselves. Keeping these beliefs close and protected is what helps us to be led in the right direction, so we have to protect our hearts -- it’s a force that is evident in our decisions for this life! Both of these pieces of armor are mentioned to help us stand our ground, so we should stand in the truth that comes with the Word and in the righteousness that comes with our salvation in Christ.

Ephesians 6:15 mentions the Gospel of Peace. There is A LOT of chaos that we see in the battlefield that is this life, and there are A LOT of things that we can worry about, but in the midst of chaos, we must remember to have peace! We should rest assured in God, for scriptures like 1 Peter 5:7 NIV and Phillippians 4:6-7 GNT tell us that we can give ALL our problems to Him and ask Him for ALL that we need, for He cares enough to provide us with these things AND give us peace on top of that!

The stressful things of life have the power to take over IF we let them, but we should rely on God and the peace He has given us, for He WILL keep us in the hard times, and that alone should give us peace!

The shield of faith is mentioned in Ephesians 6:16. Our faith in God has the power to push us through our situations, just as a shield does in battle! Luke 17:6 TPT even talks about the strength of even the smallest faith.

We should have faith in God, despite whatever goes on around us and despite whatever we see! The physical may seem like it’s set-in-stone and won’t shift, but He has the final say, and we should believe His words for our lives over what we see in front of us. It is with this faith in our hearts and in our mindsets that we can push against ALL attacks from the enemy, as it says in scripture!

Ephesians 6:17 mentions the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. With salvation as our helmets, our minds, which process and plan everything, are protected. With the sword of the Spirit, we can fend off the enemy with the Word, for the Word gives us the strength, confidence, and power to do so! Our faith in our salvation grows more WITH the Word, so we should speak and believe the Word over all our situations, in order to keep ourselves protected further.

In Ephesians 6:10-13 NLT, we learn what equipping the armor of God can do for us. The armor of God lets us tap into God’s mighty power and use His strength to combat all spiritual advances made against our lives! It is our job as Christians to put into practice the characteristics of the armor so that we can be equipped against all that comes our way, and as long as we maintain our armor and rely on Him, we will have His peace that surpasses ALL understanding (Philippians 4:9 GNT).

I hope that you enjoyed this blog! Come back next Monday and further feed your soul!
