Never Changing God

Have you ever been in a relationship that has lasted a long time? Maybe you and the other person have known each other since you were children, and have worked to keep the friendship until your mature years. Now, in reality, said friendship probably experienced some rocky roads: fights, lies, hurt, etc…. For some individuals, they would justify said rocky roads by stating how their friendship “Is not the same,” or how their friend is “not the same person anymore.” This may be something that you are dealing with right now, having a friendship or relationship that you believe is not the same as it was in the beginning, causing there to be rifts in the relationship. It appears to be in human nature to experience change, both on the individual and holistic level. However, how amazing would it be to maintain a friendship on the same level that it started; how convenient would it be to know that you could always confide in someone because they never changed?

Now, what if I told you that there is a friendship that every human can attain, in which the other individuals never change? As surreal as it may seem, it is very real: the most real friendship one may ever have. This friendship is with God, the never changing friend. Now, you may be asking, “how does one acquire such a friendship?” My answer is this: after accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you now have the opportunity to fellowship with God on a personal level. Just as you would get to know someone you would like to be friends with on earth, you must have even more fervor and desire to get to know God. Because he is never changing, you do not have to worry about betrayal or lies on His end; In fact, if such things were to happen, it would be on your end. The Bible illustrates the benefits of God's unchanging nature in the most eloquent way, as David states in Psalms 100:5 “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” This remains the same with His knowledge, sovereignty, holiness, power, faithfulness, goodness, patience, grace, and even His wrath. Because His nature never changes, His will and promises never change. If such a God exists, how then would anything that causes a rift in a said relationship is of His fault? Morally and spiritually, it does not make sense. It often surprises me how humans all over the world long for a relationship that is everlasting and does not change, yet when attaining a relationship with God (one that is everlasting and does not change), they are quick to take advantage of such attributes, trying to place any blame on Him. This mindset could not be more wrong, and we need to understand that in a relationship with someone in which lies, betrayal, and all its attributes are not in His nature, any issues that arise in terms of feeling distant, are never His fault. We must understand that it is due to our inability to stay faithful to Him, as one who does not change is incapable of unfaithfulness by their very nature. However, for us, this is not the case. God is unchanging, therefore it is our job to make sure that we maintain a relationship that is so strong, that we may even be able to “hear His heartbeat.” In this way, we may be able to fall into the promises and plans that he has for us, due to our ability to remain in a healthy and constant relationship with the one who never changes.
